More than 100 Somali MPs have tabled a motion of no-confidence against Mohamed Osman Jawari, the Federal Parliament Speaker.
MPs accused Jawari of impeding constitutional review process, power abuse and suppressing opinions of lawmakers; saying that they have confidence to successfully fulfill his duties as the Speaker of the Federal Parliament of Somalia.
They submitted a motion signed by 107 MP’s on Wednesday to the deputy Speaker of the parliament Abdiweli Mudey.
Jawari – who is in his 9th year of office as the Speaker – denounced the motion as illegal.
The MPs tabling the motion require a two-thirds majority of the Lower House, or 184 MPs to successfully remove Jawari from office.
